Out with the old…

in with the new.

I don’t know about any of you guys but I’m basically just counting down the days until 2017 is over and our glorious year of 2018 can begin. I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for a new year… not to say that 2017 wasn’t great.

In fact 2017 was probably one of the best years yet to happen. Working in places that I didn’t quite hate, making money and learning how to save, living in New York City for 2 months AND going to theatre school in the city for the summer, Disney (5.0) and a new job (which again… I don’t QUITE hate) – 2017 has given me a lot. Ups and downs but mostly… lots of ups. It’s been a great year (A little quiet if you ask me) but it’s set me up for an almost epic 2018.

I’ve been posting for weeeeeeks now that I’m currently planning 4 trips for 2018 (and it’ll probably max out at 4 – your girls gotta work some time) For now, I can tell you about 2/4 of the trips (because the other 2 are still in the early stages of planning)

The first one is going to be heading back to my one true love… Manhattan (yeah I know.. big surprise) Dad and I are heading there near the end of February for a few days to see Frozen: The Broadway musical. And I’m not gonna lie… I’m geeking out about it. The Disney fan in me had NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITED.

Trip number 2 is a little bit longer… Marley and I are headed out to backpack Europe for 5(and a bit….) weeks. And yes… it’s actually happening. Train tickets are purchased and flights are being booked THIS WEEK. The big layout is to hit 8 countries in 5 and a bit weeks, Doing everything from a Pub crawl in Ireland- to a relaxing week on the beautiful island of Santorini. So, here’s where we’re going…

  1. Ireland
  2. England
  3. Amsterdam
  4. Germany
  5. France
  6. Switzerland
  7. Italy
  8. Greece

So there ya have it… 2/4 trips… lots of plannings.. lots of money…. so much excitement!

I’ll be trying to blog more these next few weeks and definitely more often in the new year with all that’s going to be happening I figure this is the easiest way to keep everyone in the loop. Also instagram @sydneyschott for any photos of trips or workout stuff or just to see whats going on in my life.

home sweet… home?

One month since my last blog post and that is the exact example of how time can get away from you so easily. It 100% does not feel like it’s been that long. The last few weeks in New York were extremely busy and left me with little time to sit at home on the computer. Most days were 6 hours in class and then a few more hours doing homework, left with trying to find time to jam in all the things we wanted to do before we all left the city and also trying to maintain a decent sleeping schedule.

In the last few weeks in New York we made our way from Brooklyn to the Upper East side and got in as many tourist attractions and famous New York sightings as possible. Making sure we crossed of the MET and the Guggenheim (museums), as well as going to Brooklyn for the botanic garden, and prospect park. I have probably 1000 photos just from the last 2 weeks in the city, and I promise I’ll post them all when I get the chance.

Since being home… just over a week now, I’ve done very little. The entire week was honestly spent trying to adjust back into small town life… which was much more difficult than I thought it would be???? But going from the city that never sleeps to a city that seems to never wake up… was quite the change. Including an increase of allergies here that have had me in a fog all week. I won’t go into all the detail… but I miss the city more than words can describe, and I’m already frantically planning for my return.

This week home has also been filled with unpacking, catching up with friends, trying to find a routine in my life again, and find a job!

Today commences the first of what will likely be MANY job interviews…

wish me luck! (Pictures to come… I promise)

the final countdown

We are officially down to 3 weeks left in this amazing city and I’m already counting the days till I can move here. These last few weeks are going by insanely quick and the days are getting shorter. It’s been some pretty shitty whether here since Saturday and the rain has put a hold on anything fun.

This past week was a week of repetition, hanging out in the places we’ve already found that we like, going back to get snacks at the cookie dough store, I went on a walk a few times around the city to find new adventures- one day was spent with my 2 scene partners in a cute little coffee bar down in Union square rehearsing our scene in the public space which was VERY interesting… and that place had arguably the best latte I’ve ever had in my life.

Saw another movie this week because why not… with the crappy whether we’ve stayed close to the are because of all the rain. Theres still a bunch of stuff I wanna do and the weeks are going to jam pack soon so I can cross them all off my list. This weekend I walked 20 blocks, stood in the rain for an hour, paid waaaaay too much money for waitress  tickets, and then walked another 20 blocks in the rain- but it was an amazing show and a Sunday well spent!

Honestly it wasn’t a crazy week here, and I’m beginning to even bore myself with these blogs… maybe next week I’ll do something exciting to amp it up a bit 😉

Birthday week…

This past week has been extremely long and I’m beginning to just accept the fact that when in New York no matter how uneventful your week appears, it’s still extremely jam packed. As the weeks go by the days here are feeling less and less like holidays and more and more like home… which makes the thought of only having 4 weeks left here so bittersweet.

On Saturday the 8th I had class to make up for the 4th of July, and I decided to spend the rest of my day out in Greenwich village afterwards. There was a “block party” going on on one of the side streets so I walked down and was able to find a bunch of cute little stores, and even got to see a jazz band playing that had attracted a dancing couple. Then I got completely turned around in the area I was in so I spent about an hour just “roaming the streets” of greenwich until I found myself back at Joe’s Pizza and had a slice. At this time Katie had finished her classes that day and I grabbed the subway back to res.

Sunday the 9th was the first time I finally made myself go out and GROCERY SHOP! Go me…  and then I spent the rest of the day doing some meal prep for the rest of the week. We also went to the drama bookshop that day, which is this amazinggggggggg store filled with basically any play you could ever want.

Tuesday the water in our building was unexpectedly turned off and it was a fun day in the apartment with no water for over 7 hrs… things got a little scary.

Wednesday and Thursday of this week were basically a blur of me trying to not spend so much money so I stayed in most of the time, went out and about on walks and such- but mostly stayed in and worked on memorizing my scene for class.

Thursday I got my isa order that came in and all was well in the world again…

Friday after class Katie and I impulsively went and saw the despicable me 3 movie in theatres and then we went shopping… I found the WEIRDEST store I could find and then I spent over 40 minutes in said store trying to find the most useless thing… then I bought it for Amir’s New York package.

Saturday was my birthday! The lovely 19 which would usually be an exciting night spent in Canada out with my friends at a bar or something but NOPE. AMERICA. But a birthday in New York nevertheless is nothing to complain about. I had 2 classes that day again to make up for the 4th of July and then Katie and I went out to Juniors for dinner. Then we saw CATS the musical. Afterwards we got dessert and walked home… all in all it was a fun day. And to end the week, Sunday again was spent grocery shopping and meal prepping for this upcoming week, as well as doing laundry and finishing up my homework. I bought a few more plays this week too.

We are down to the final 2 weeks of my 5 week program so we are seriously beginning to get in the grind, and then the last 2 weeks will be a audition technique intensive.

Days go by… not slowly

Each day is beginning to turn into one big blur and the weeks are FINALLY starting to go by quicker… not that I want my time to fly by, but being away from home can feel like FOREVER some times.

I really should start blogging more often, but right now I’m so busy I don’t have time… which just means longer and more action packed posts.

So on Canada day we headed down to Greenwich Village and went to the buzzfeed obsessed COOKIE DOUGH PLACE! Now if you’re unsure of what this is… it’s called Do, and it is sooooo awesome. They have dozens of flavours of edible cookie dough and they serve it up LIKE ICE CREAM. And it was seriously worth the walk. On the way down there we also passed The New School, and NYU,  which was super rad to see the buildings. Right by DO is NYU, so the entire area is college crazed. It also happens to be right outside of Washington square park… which has quickly become by favourite park so far. This was the day I learned that squirrels in New York have NO BOUNDARIES or sense of personal space. Later on that day… cause I was feeling particularly bored in our lil flat- I headed up to Central Park ( Parks are basically the only free thing in New York so I’ve been spending a lot of time at them…) Once I got to the park my phone died, and it started pouring rain- So I ran to the subway and took it by myself for the first time and surprisingly enough DIDNT GET LOST. Marking about 18k steps that day and thinking that that was going to be the peak of my week…. but it was just the start.

Sunday morning I headed back down to Washington square park in the morning out of boredom and spent the majority of the morning laying on a park bench watching Netflix. Then one of my rm mates came down and met me and we decided to go on an adventure! So off we went to find… the New York famous ARTICHOKE PIZZA. Which was, by the way, about an hour walk away. On our way there we discovered the Joes Pizza from the original Spiderman movies and stopped in there for a slice, and then continued our hike for more pizza. Once we got to the pizza place well over an hour later, THEY WERE ALL OUT OF THE ARTICHOKE PIZZA, which I’m definitely still upset about and am determined to get artichoke pizza while I’m here. ~sigh~

Afterwards we decided since we were already on the east side that we’d go see the Freedom Tower and the world trade centre memorials. So we hopped on the subway- only for it to let us off a stop before we should have, have our gps make us walk 20 minutes in the opposite direction, and we finally gave up and called a cab.

Later on we learned that we the subway didn’t take us to our proper station because it was CLOSED/EVACUATED because of a unattended package which caused a big commotion for the morning at the oculus.

AFTER going to the top of the Freedom Tower, we hopped on the subway back up to broadway to go to Ellen’s Stardust diner, where we got milkshakes, burgers with Mac and cheese ON THEM and soooooo many fries. Then we walked back home afterwards in hopes to get in those last few steps of the day and ~digest~ some.

Monday started classes again where we began ANIMAL WORK… I’ll leave it at that.

Monday night we headed out to Macy’s to find some bathing suits and last minute things for our 4th of July outing to Coney Island!

The 4th of July was a very long day and it all started with an hour subway ride right up to the heart of the bronx to head to the bronx zoo to observe an animal as our homework for class, then an hour ride back. Then about 20 of us all gathered together to head to Coney Island… another hour long subway ride. Fortunately the homeless and crazy of New York City all stuffed themselves onto our train and our ride was filled with a guy BLASTING Michael Jackson and dancing (and of course as actors and loving to be the centre of attention we all joined in on the dancing and singing.. it was something out of a movie I tell ya)

Once we got to Coney Island we all split up and went to go on rides and such, and after one ride our group of 20 became a group of 2… and everyone else headed back to the city.

BUT NOT US, Katie and I were the only 2 to stay and I’m so glad we did! We had an all day pass for the rides so the entire day was spent getting our moneys worth! We went on about 7 or 8 rides all day, but they were insane! American roller coasters are soooo much more intense than anything in wonderland! AFTER we were done all the rides we decided to get food (this is like 8:30pm now…) and I found this place that sold pina coladas with freeeeeeeee refills IN A PINEAPPLE CUP! Then we watched the fireworks for like 10 minutes then had to catch the last subway back to Manhattan! Of course it was packed and we spent yet ANOTHER one hour ride on the subway standing the entire way. Spending well over 4 hours on the subway that day.

The rest of this week has been pretty calm compared to the beginning of it all. Wednesday Katie and I headed down to union square and went to Barnes and noble, I got some books for school and read some plays that night. A lot of drama stirred up in the residents these day so it was filled with gossip and staying in. Thursday after class I spent like 3 hours on the phone, then decided to head out to… THE PARK (cause its free right) I walked down to union square park and found a cute little coffee shop that costs an arm and a leg for a almond milk latte but none the less it was amazing and totally worth it. Then I sat in the park for hourssssss drinking my coffee and reading some Shakespeare. I talked to a cute old couple sitting beside me who comes to the park as often as they can to “spend time together and people watch”. They also witnessed me make friends with a squirrel.  I finished the day with seeing Spiderman in theatres and eating a bucket of popcorn the size of my head!

Today has been calm, we had a makeup class today from the 4th of July, and I’ll probably go out to the park soon or on a walk.

Maybe next week I’ll find a new part of the city to explore.

Happy Canada Day!

I send a happy Canada day to all back home from the good ol’ USA, where unfortunately no one even knows Canada day exists… oh well.

This year Canada day will be spent in my cute little flat with a bunch of people who really have no clue that today is a day of partying and celebration!! However, it will be made up with a celebration on July 4th here in New York! We’re planning for all the roomies to head up to Cony Island!

This week has been crazy! It’s gone by sooooo slowly but so fast at the same time and one week down and EVERYDAY is beginning to blur together. I can no longer remember if I went here Monday or Tuesday or yesterday and with the days being SO jammed pack with action, it’s confusing as hell.

This week was our first week of classes and they slowlyyyyyyy got better throughout the week. My schedule is fairly basic and I’m done most days at 1pm- so I’m left with tons of time to do stuff around the city. Tuesday morning I woke up and got some cardio in and did the stairs for an hour in the morning before class, and that night me and a few of my room mates went out for a) pizza and b) school supplies, and had some fun roaming around the city and shopping a bit.

Then Wednesday morning… since I apparently can’t sleep in past 7am and neither can my room mate… We got up and went on a walk through Madison square park and union square before class- finding a dog park, a shake shack, and an adorable market place in union square on the mornings (AND A HUGE BARNES AND NOBLE WITH 4 CASES OF SHAKESPEARE AHHHHHHH)  Then Wednesday after class I had some free time so I headed out to Korea town right around the corner and picked up some fun snacks from the Korean super market.

Thursday I had a break in between classes and headed back down to union square by myself to check out the barnes and noble, and then I had Shakespeare in the afternoon. For dinner that night I decided to check out a Shawarma cart down a block from my place and DIED because it was soooooo good.

Yesterday was the craziest of the days this week, starting with a FOUR HOUR LONG improv class, which was soooo amazing and is 100% going to be my favourite class. I went out and got a new nose ring and found a pretty rad tattoo/piercing studio, then we headed out to WALK to the Brooklyn bridge… which when you look at the map it seems much farther than it was- it ended up being about 5k, so not horrible at all, but THE END OF THE ISLAND.

Seeing the Brooklyn bridge was awesomeee, so amazing to see such a piece of work. And we actually walked on it, I was in aweeee I’m glad I got to go see it. On the way we also got to go through the financial district and see the NY Supreme Court and all the court houses and huge buildings. We also got to go through Little Italy, China Town, the east village and soho. Definitely a good “sight seeing” walk.

However it looked like rain and we headed back via subway which turned a 2hr trip into a 10 minute trip. Today looks like rain is in the forecast as well, and the majority of it will be pretty low key today I think. Maybe I’ll ATTEMPT to go on a run today if it’s not too bad out,  but besides that the exploring is on pause today as I am exhausted,

Happy Canada day my friends, follow my snaps or Insta for more photos of my daysssss

Early mornings!

I got to New York on Saturday and to be honest it already feels like a lifetime away. This city is CRAZY and it’s all just starting! I woke up at 4 am on our travel day and ever since then I’ve been up EVERY morning early.. so today I set my alarm for 6 am so that I could get up and get a little workout in before class… and I woke up ON MY OWN at 5:45 am!

So I hit the stairs… the building I’m in is about 12-14 floors ( im not sure really I don’t pay attention past floor 11… my floor) and I got in a nice little 45 minute workout of doing the stairs mixed with lunges, squats, and variations of the both… and oh boy was I sweaty!

Then since I had gotten up before the rush (11 girls in one apartment, 3 bathrooms) I got to have a nice longggg shower, and Now I’m in the living room having breakfast and enjoying the morning view of New York city.

Today is day 2 of classes and I have voice and speech, acting, and Shakespeare! Then grocery shopping afterwards…
